Joy Guffey
Joy Guffey is the Youth Director at MIPortlandNaz. Joy has volunteered in many different capacities over the years but recently was hired to lead our students in 6th through 12th grade. She recently was accepted to receive her District License at which point she will receive the title “Pastor” and continue to work towards ordination. Joy graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 2010 with a bachelor’s in Christian Education.
Joy has been married to Jimmy since June 2010 and together they have 5 precious children who bring so much fun and energy to their life! Jackson, Ezra, Jacob, Emanie, Eden, and their family dog Nora (the kids would not want her left out!) make up the Guffey household. Joy enjoys being a mother and doing her best to enjoy all the highs and lows that come with raising children. You can find Joy cheering her kids on at their sporting events, camping at Indian Lake, having conversations around a cup of coffee, being active, and cheering on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Joy grew up attending Sparta Church of the Nazarene where she was an active member in her youth group. Her pastor, youth leaders, and peers loved and challenged her to be more like Christ. Joy is passionate about students knowing and loving Jesus right where they are. She desires for them to truly believe that they have great purpose, and their lives matter to God and others. Through fun and discipleship, Joy is motivated to share the love of Christ with those she encounters.
Joy has been serving alongside Jimmy for nearly 15 years. Together they have grown to love the community of Portland and see great value in laying down deep roots right where God has them, all while being faithful to what is in front of them. Loving God and loving others is their life mission and doing it alongside a body of believers is such a privilege!
